Creative Potential

Human Rights, Article 23,

The development by persons with disabilities of their personality, talents and creativity, as well as their mental and physical abilities, to their fullest potential (United Nations, 2008)

Raincoat & Slippers believes that it is the human right of every unique individual to express themselves; to learn about themselves and about the world around them.

Each individual has the right to the opportunity and the appropriate support to be the best version of their creative self.

At Raincoat & Slippers we have learned that there is no ceiling on expectations. And have adopted an approach which asks, what can we do to make it happen?

And the winner is…..

Clare is the Artistic Director of ShowDowns! (a Raincoat and Slippers creation)

It all started almost 15 years ago, when Clare co-founded ShowDowns, a Drama Company for teens and adults with Down’s Syndrome.

The Company has since gone on from strength-to-strength, bagging the SCLD (Scottish Commission for Learning Disability) and Creative Scotland Award in 2019. The award was in the Creative Communities category.

This year, in September 2026 at IndepenDance’s Gathered Together Festival - Tramway Glasow, the company impressed audiences with their devised piece, Inspiration - a piece which showcases their skill in creating and performing quality physical theatre, which both engages and amuses (Clips can be viewed in the welcome page).

ShowDowns! performers are enjoying their new home in the Tron Theatre, Glasgow, where they are currently devising their own interpretation of Sleeping Beauty.
